Aerospace Recommended Practice

1.1 A measured amount of fluid is filtered through a specified micron size disc membrane using a vacuum to impinge the contained contamination particles upon the surface of the filter disc.  The filter disc is then examined microscopically to determine the amount of contamination present in stated micron size range.
